Build an inspection record that can be handed over
The following fields are editorial recommendations, not an OEM acceptance standard. Keep one record for each pump and identify each inspected location consistently.
- Equipment identity: asset tag, nameplate model, serial number and inspection date.
- Document reference: manual identifier, revision, page and any approved modification drawing.
- Installed arrangement: manifold, rod outlet arrangement, or unresolved configuration.
- Location: cylinder or chamber identifier and the site's viewing orientation convention.
- Observation conditions: whether the pump was isolated or observed from an approved operating position.
- Evidence: a permitted photograph or written observation linked to that location.
- Finding: describe what was seen, with “not observable” available as a result.
- Follow-up: responsible person, work-order reference, required clarification and verification status.
For example, a blank template can prompt “Location ___; arrangement ___; observation ___; document ___; follow-up ___.” Do not prefill it with “normal.” A missing observation should remain open until someone can obtain it safely.
Use separate entries for findings and explanations
Record an interrupted or uneven observed spray as an observation. Do not automatically label it a failed pump, blocked nozzle or damaged piston. Those explanations require further investigation under the applicable procedure. The record should preserve both the original finding and the later confirmed cause, if one is established.
If the physical arrangement differs from the drawing, attach that discrepancy to the work order before requesting a replacement. A catalogue model name by itself cannot resolve a field modification. Avoid converting a photograph into an assumed part number.
Prepare a focused parts enquiry
Include the pump identity, verified assembly drawing reference, existing component marking, location and a clear description of the requested item. State which facts remain unknown. Ask for the proposed part number and documented applicability to the installed assembly before accepting a selection.
Keep the inspection finding separate from the purchasing request: observing poor spray does not determine which component must be replaced.
