NOV 8-P-80 Rated Row: Separate Input and Hydraulic HP

TL;DR

For the NOV 8-P-80 chart, record rated speed, input horsepower and hydraulic horsepower as three separate fields: the marked rated row is 160 SPM, 800 input HP and 720 hydraulic HP.

These are document-reading examples from NOV booklet 25-101131, page 28, not measured output, motor sizing or operating approval.

Scope: which chart does this record describe?

This guide concerns the separate 8-P-80 Performance Chart on PDF page 28 of NOV's booklet. The same page also contains a 7-P-50 chart; page location alone is insufficient model identification. Page 27's specifications separately list the 8-P-80 input horsepower and rated speed. Record the document identity and a revision only if it has been confirmed.

An installed pump needs its own serial identity, configuration and applicable approved operating documents. The current website catalog contains an unresolved 8-P-80 data discrepancy. This article uses the cited NOV table, does not adopt the catalog values and does not settle equipment applicability. Use the pump directory as navigation, not as validation of the chart.

How can the two speed rows be recorded without confusion?

Use the dagger marker and its footnote to identify rated speed and input horsepower. Keep the unmarked row separately, with no implied operating recommendation. The following is a selected extract, not the full performance table. NOV page 28.

A useful editorial check is to ask someone reading the saved record to find the same row in the original. If they cannot distinguish the marker from a handwritten selection, the record needs clearer labels. Do not substitute a higher printed number for a missing equipment approval.

What is lost when a record says only “800 HP”?

It loses the source's input-versus-hydraulic distinction. In the rated row, the input field is 800 HP and the hydraulic field is 720 HP. The footnote states a basis of 90% mechanical efficiency and 100% volumetric efficiency. Preserve that basis; do not treat it as a measurement of an installed pump. NOV page 28.

As an editorial arithmetic check, 800 multiplied by 0.90 equals 720. This is our check of the printed example, not a new OEM rating or a motor selection calculation. A handoff should identify the source field, the printed value and the assumptions separately. A motor sizing or operating decision needs its own technical review.

How should flow, pressure and a doubtful unit pair be handled?

Keep the liner column attached to each example. At the rated 160 SPM row, the 6-inch (152.4 mm) column lists 500 GPM (1890 LPM); its maximum discharge-pressure heading lists 2470 psi (173.7 kg/cm²). Retain the source's rounded pairs and labels rather than implying measured flow or a recommended setpoint. NOV page 28.

One source-quality issue needs an explicit flag: the original image's 6¼-inch pressure entry prints 2280 psi beside 106.3 kg/cm². A dimensional check finds these do not form a consistent unit pair. Save the excerpt and request clarification of the applicable source; this article does not propose a corrected OEM value or use that pair for an operating decision.

Do not resolve such a discrepancy by borrowing a value from the neighboring model, or by presenting an unlabelled conversion as a manufacturer correction. Keep the issue separate from any otherwise readable row. The specification table's fluid-cylinder hydrostatic test pressure is also a different label, not working-pressure permission.

Power-record handoff checklist

The following are suggested editorial checks, not a manufacturer inspection procedure:

This creates a traceable reading record. It does not itself establish a valid duty point, parts fitment or the condition of a particular pump.

FAQ

Is 720 HP the rated input horsepower in this chart?

No. The marked rated row separates 800 input HP from 720 hydraulic HP; retain both labels and the chart assumptions.

Does the printed 180 SPM row authorize running at that speed?

No. A separately printed row is not equipment-specific approval. Confirm the installed configuration and applicable approved operating limits.

Should I silently repair an inconsistent unit pair?

No. Preserve the original excerpt, mark the discrepancy and obtain clarification. Do not present an editorial conversion as an OEM correction.

Does the chart prove actual flow or parts interchangeability?

No. A tabulated example does not verify installed pump performance or replacement-part fitment. Those require separate evidence.

Next step

For a technical document inquiry, send the pump identity, source page, selected row and liner column, plus any conflicting excerpt. Keep the record pending until the responsible reviewer confirms equipment applicability and resolves data needed for the intended decision.
