TL;DR
For NOV 12-P-160, keep the Performance Chart and High Pressure Performance Chart as separate source records. A matching liner size or flow entry does not make their pressure fields interchangeable. Preserve the exact table title, units and footnotes before comparing data.
- Attach every copied value to its source table, liner column and speed row where relevant.
- Preserve a footnote symbol when the source gives a symbol instead of a number.
- Obtain equipment-specific configuration and approved limits before using either chart for a decision.
This article explains document reading. It does not confirm an installed pump's pressure rating, conversion to a high-pressure arrangement or replacement-part compatibility.
Scope: which two tables are being read?
NOV document 25-101131 contains a 12-P-160 Performance Chart on PDF page 30 and a separately titled 12-P-160 High Pressure Performance Chart on PDF page 31. We call the former the standard table here only to distinguish the two titles. Page 30's neighboring 14-P-220 chart concerns a different model.
These booklet tables are general reference information, not an equipment approval. The website's existing 12-P-160 catalog and performance-field provenance have not been reconciled with both tables. This article uses only the cited examples and leaves that catalog review separate. Use the pump directory for navigation while collecting the applicable equipment documents.
Why can the same size and flow give different pressure entries?
Because the fields come from different tables. At the 5½-inch column, the standard table prints 5000 psi (351.7 kg/cm²), while the high-pressure table prints 5555 psi. Both show 444 GPM at the marked 120 SPM row; the standard table additionally prints 1682 LPM. NOV PDF pages 30–31.
Read that as a comparison of source entries. Matching flow does not establish identical pressure capability or configuration. The higher entry does not authorize a change to the installed unit. Keep the following example records separate rather than combining the standard table's flow and the other table's pressure into a new, approved duty point.
| Source record | Selected liner and row | Printed flow | Printed maximum discharge-pressure entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance Chart, PDF page 30 | 5½ inches, marked 120 SPM | 444 GPM (1682 LPM) | 5000 psi (351.7 kg/cm²) |
| High Pressure Performance Chart, PDF page 31 | 5½ inches, marked 120 SPM | 444 GPM | 5555 psi |
The table above is an editorial source comparison, not a sizing recommendation or a site operating procedure.
How should units and footnote marks travel with a value?
Copy the source's units and footnote context with the field. The standard table supplies imperial and metric pairs; the high-pressure table labels its pressure in psi and its flow in gallons per minute. A metric value copied from the standard table is not a metric entry printed in the other table. Label any later conversion separately and retain the original field.
Footnote symbols must be read within their own table. In the standard table, † marks rated speed and input horsepower. In the high-pressure table, ** marks those rated fields, while † beside the 5½- and 5-inch headings refers to plungers and packing being available. Both tables state 90% mechanical efficiency and 100% volumetric efficiency as their basis. NOV PDF pages 30–31.
That availability note does not identify the parts fitted to a particular pump or prescribe a complete conversion. Carry the note into the review packet, then request the applicable drawings and configuration confirmation. Do not import the neighboring model's footnote or treat identical symbols across tables as identical instructions.
What should replace a high-pressure-table cell containing ‡?
Keep the symbol in the source record. On page 31, the 120 SPM row's 7¼- and 7-inch flow cells contain ‡ rather than numeric flow entries. The associated valve-life note has an unclear printed unit string. NOV PDF page 31.
Do not replace those marks with zero, copy the standard table's numeric row into them or silently repair the note into an operating limit. Save the original excerpt and request clarification from the responsible source owner. This article supplies no corrected number or approved threshold for those marked cells.
Two-table review checklist
These are suggested documentation checks:
- Confirm the pump identity and configuration being discussed.
- Save each full table title, PDF page and original excerpt separately.
- Keep liner size, speed row, field name, original units and footnote marks together.
- Label a comparison or conversion as editorial work, preserving the original values.
- Mark symbol-only cells and unclear units as awaiting clarification.
- Request the applicable configuration drawings and approved pressure limits.
- Assign responsibility for resolving source differences before an equipment decision.
An auditable record lets another reader locate the same entry and see the questions still open.
FAQ
Does 444 GPM prove the two pressure entries apply to the same configuration?
No. It is a matching flow entry in two separately titled tables. Configuration and approved pressure limits need separate evidence.
Can the standard table's metric pressure be attached to the high-pressure entry?
No. Keep the printed source fields separate. Any independently calculated conversion must be labelled and must not be presented as printed OEM data.
Does † mean rated speed in both tables?
No. Read the legend belonging to each table. The high-pressure table uses ** for rated speed and input horsepower and † for a parts-availability note.
Should ‡ flow cells be filled from the other chart?
No. Preserve the marks and ask for clarification. Neither zero nor an imported neighboring value resolves the source's missing numeric entry.

Next step
For a technical document inquiry, provide pump identity, the two original table excerpts, selected size and row, and the unresolved fields. Ask for the document applicable to the installed configuration and clarification of marked cells. Keep that confirmation separate from this source comparison.
