Mission Torque Pro vs Torque Pro Lite: Retention Scope

TL;DR — Keep Torque Pro and Torque Pro Lite conditions separate

When reviewing a Mission Blak-JAK valve-cover retention system, retain the exact variant name before applying any brochure statement. Both Torque Pro and Torque Pro Lite descriptions mention hydraulic-wrench actuation, but the Lite paragraph separately describes hydraulically actuated mechanical retention with no hydraulic equipment remaining on the pump during operation. Its fluid-end conditions also differ from the wording in the Torque Pro paragraph. These descriptions do not prove that the two variants share parts or fit a particular installed module. NOV brochure, PDF page 10, printed page 6.

Scope — Which document and systems are covered?

This comparison uses the separate Torque Pro and Torque Pro Lite paragraphs in NOV's Mission Drilling Solutions brochure, D352004107-MKT-001 Rev. 02, PDF page 10. PDF page 24 carries a 2015 copyright and states that the brochure is general information rather than a design document. Source checked on October 15, 2026, Los Angeles time. The current revision and applicability to an individual assembly remain unresolved.

The review concerns system identification and document boundaries. It does not supply a torque value, hydraulic setting, service sequence or conversion approval. The adjacent liner-retention and rod-system descriptions concern other assemblies.

Does hydraulic-wrench actuation make the variants identical?

No. A shared actuation description is not a shared assembly reference. The brochure mentions a hydraulic wrench acting on the valve-cap retainer in both paragraphs, while only the Lite paragraph describes the retention principle and absence of hydraulics on the operating pump in those terms. Do not carry that Lite-specific description into an unidentified Torque Pro record. NOV brochure, PDF page 10.

Keep the actuation tool, retention assembly and documented operating configuration as separate evidence fields. The word Torque in a product name is not a tightening specification, and this page provides no setting to infer from that name. A matching wrench photograph does not establish a compatible retainer or complete kit.

How do the fluid-end descriptions differ?

The Torque Pro paragraph refers to OEM valve covers and Mission L-style plugs. The Lite paragraph describes a design for OEM one-piece valve-over-valve fluid ends, and for L-shaped fluid ends whose valve-cover arrangement does not use a threaded ring. Preserve the no-threaded-ring condition with the L-shaped-fluid-end description. Do not shorten this to Lite fits every L-shaped module. NOV brochure, PDF page 10.

These are brochure descriptions, not a serial-specific fitment matrix. The wording does not establish that any L-style plug and any L-shaped module are the same installation, nor does it identify the studs, retainers, seals or attachments required for a particular unit. Record the installed module's drawing and revision before assessing either variant.

Does the no-modification statement approve a retrofit?

No. Although each paragraph says that fluid-end modification is not required, this general statement does not confirm the identity and condition of the reader's installed assembly or approve a proposed component set. Retain it as a source statement and request the applicable installation drawing, variant-specific bill of materials and manufacturer confirmation for the actual equipment.

Document an existing-system replacement and a proposed variant change separately. A generic catalog label, a missing Lite suffix or a statement copied from another valve-cover design cannot resolve the proposed change. This article does not establish compatibility with TAPR-LOK or FAST-CHANGE assemblies discussed in the earlier Type P article.

FAQ

Does the brochure say that no hydraulics remain on every Torque Pro system during operation?

No. That description appears in the Torque Pro Lite paragraph. It should not be generalized to an unidentified Torque Pro assembly.

Does the Lite description cover every L-shaped fluid end?

The source qualifies the L-shaped-fluid-end description by the absence of a threaded ring for the valve cover. It does not provide blanket fitment approval.

Can a catalog name supply a tightening torque or hydraulic setting?

No. The cited page does not provide those settings. They require the applicable instructions for the identified assembly.

Is a no-modification brochure statement enough to approve changing variants?

No. Confirm the installed assembly and the complete proposed component set against applicable drawings and manufacturer information for that equipment.

Next step — Provide the variant and module evidence

For a valve-cover system document inquiry, provide the full assembly label, pump and module identification, installed arrangement, relevant drawings and the requested replacement or proposed change. Missing variant, component or applicability evidence remains unresolved. This is a document review, not permission to trial-fit, adjust or modify a system.
